The INBRE program changed the trajectory of my career and, quite frankly, my life. I could not be more thankful that I signed up for an INBRE short course.

Education

The MDI Biological Laboratory provides biomedical training to more than 600 undergraduate students each year. As the founder and leader of the Maine INBRE program, a statewide network of 17 research and academic institutions, we are preparing students for 21st-century careers in science, healthcare and entrepreneurial endeavors.

Our programs emphasize hands-on experiences, problem solving, communication and partnership building. Our programs serve middle and high school students, undergraduates, graduate students and post-doctoral research fellows, as well as practicing physicians, veterinarians, scientists, teachers and members of the public from all backgrounds.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships

MDI Bio Lab’s relatively small size provides a unique and intimate backdrop for collaboration, mentoring and sharing of knowledge, away from the sometimes-overwhelming circumstances of life in big academic institutions or for-profit companies.

Our favorable student to faculty ratio means that students benefit from support that will set them up for success in next stage of their careers. They also tap into our network of visiting faculty mentors from around the globe who conduct short-term research programs and seminars here.
