Education

MDI Biological Laboratory’s education programs provide research training opportunities for hundreds of students each year.

Our programs emphasize hands-on experiences, entrepreneurship, problem solving, communication, and partnership building. Our programs serve middle and high school students, undergraduates, graduate students, and post-doctoral research fellows, as well as  practicing physicians, veterinarians, scientists, teachers, and members of the public from all backgrounds.

Our goal is to inspire students at all levels of their science training, provide on-going professional development opportunities for career scientists, develop a science and technology workforce equipped for success in the 21st century, and increase public engagement with science. We lead the federally funded INBRE program which promotes workforce training for Maine undergraduates through research-based courses and fellowships.

“It’s a fantastic, state-of-the-art lab environment. The communal atmosphere encourages an exchange of ideas and doubly fosters the goals that we’re trying to achieve.”
