MDI Biological Laboratory

Undergraduate and High School Programs

Our high school and undergraduate programs engage students in scientific explorations in aging and regenerative biology and offer opportunities to build skills necessary for successful careers in the biological sciences. Research opportunities focus on uncovering basic cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying regenerative and aging processes in various animal model systems, including zebrafish, African turquoise killifish, nematodes and axolotls.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)

Two undergraduate summer fellowship programs, INBRE and REU, run in conjunction and support students working in the laboratories of resident or visiting scientists on hands-on research projects. During the 10-week residential mentored research experiences, students also receive other educational opportunities, including an extensive scientific seminar program, professional development workshops and dedicated residential life programs. Applications typically open in late fall.

High School Program

We offer Biomedical Bootcamp as a one-week non-residential program for high school students during the summer. Registration typically opens in the winter.
