Martha and Wistar Morris Laboratory

Scientists in the Martha and Wistar Morris research building study aging and regeneration to promote longer, healthier lives. Lectures, seminars, and Science Cafés are often held in the Eva Saffran-Kinne Memorial Library on the main floor of Morris.

Maine Center for Biomedical Innovation (MCBI)

The Maine Center for Biomedical Innovation (MCBI) opened in 2017 with funding from the State of Maine to prepare students at all levels for careers in science, healthcare, and entrepreneurial endeavors. The MCBI includes a training laboratory, classroom, and event space.

Star Point

Star Point is a wave-chiseled natural rock arch on MDIBL’s campus, best seen at low tide.

Trails

Did you know MDIBL maintains a few short trails that lead to the sea? This one winds past visiting scientist cottages, through bunchberries, starflowers, and low-bush blueberries, and opens up onto a point overlooking Frenchman Bay.

Hamilton Pond

Hamilton Pond was originally built as a water reserve for the fire department. Many people fish on the pond year-round and ice skate during the winter (including lab vs. lab lunch time hockey games!).

MDIBL Dock

The MDIBL dock’s primary use is collecting samples for research and monitoring, but MDIBLers have been known to brave the cold ocean water and jump off the dock during the summer months.
