Daphne W. Trotter, Esq.
Daphne Trotter recently retired as a partner at the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, based in its Washington, D.C. office, where she focused on environmental issues. She now resides full-time on Mount Desert Island.
A partner at McDermott for 23 years, Ms. Trotter represented clients in environmental litigation involving state and federal regulators and actions between private parties. This work included overseeing on behalf of a Fortune 100 company litigation involving complex scientific and medical issues in up to 10 states in the eastern US over 15 years. She also counseled clients on environmental issues and associated risks in corporate, real estate, and lending transactions. She received her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and her law degree from American University-Washington College of Law. Prior to law school, she worked for the National Science Teachers Association as an associate director of NASA programs aiming to involve high school students and teachers in space science. She is also a MDI Biological Laboratory alumna, having worked with Dr. Thomas H. Maren, M.D., as a high school student studying limb regeneration. Ms. Trotter is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the National Association of Women Lawyers. She currently serves as co-chair of the MDIBL Governance Committee.
