Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Training Laboratory

  • July 28, 2016

The MDI Biological Laboratory recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 6,560-square-foot training laboratory that will double the laboratory’s capacity to provide hands-on training for students and teachers in biomedical research each year.

About 115 elected officials, community leaders, trustees, students and staff attended the ceremony, which was followed by a ceremonial signing of a steel beam which will be used to “top off” the building.

“We have an impressive track record for delivering the kind of hands-on research training that is essential for growing Maine’s biotechnology economy,” said Kevin Strange, Ph.D., president of the MDI Biological Laboratory.  “Since 2001, our programs have provided training for more than 2,100 Maine students. The new laboratory will allow us to continue to build the state’s biomedical workforce and strengthen our research and development sector.”
