REGEN2015: Why We Need Discovery Research
Regenerative Medicine Week Public Lecture Series
Maren Auditorium, MDI Biological Laboratory
159 Old Bar Harbor Road, Salisbury Cove, ME 04672

Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado, Ph.D., professor and Howard Hughes Investigator at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, will deliver the second lecture in our Regenerative Medicine Week public lecture series. Dr. Sánchez Alvarado has established a powerful new model system to study the molecular mechanics of regeneration using a type of freshwater flatworm known as a planarian. Planaria are best known for their robust ability to regenerate an entirely new individual worm from a minuscule body part. Dr. Sánchez Alvarado will share what he is learning about why regeneration happens and what factors determine the extent of regenerative capacity.
