Scientific Seminar – Judith Yanowitz, Ph.D.
A twist of fate: what a meiotic determinant is teaching us about germ line specification
Kinne Library, Morris Research Building, 15 Star Point Rd, Salisbury Cove

Originally identified for a role in meiotic double-strand break formation, the C. elegans gene, xnd-1, also functions as a novel, early determinant of germ cell fates and a protector of genome integrity. This seminar will present our data that xnd-1 uncovers redundant pathways for germ cell differentiation and unique aspects of germline cell cycle regulation. Functional insights into XND-1’s role in controlling various aspects of germ line differentiation will also be discussed.
