Michael Rivkin, M.D., organizes and directs the first dedicated Cerebrovascular Disorders and Stroke service at Boston Children’s Hospital. He will discuss how the risk factors for stroke in children are very different from those in adults. In many cases the cause of stroke in children remains a mystery. The response of the child’s brain to stroke exposes important facets of human brain development and adaptability to injury. In this talk, we will examine why stroke occurs in young children and infants, what the lasting consequences of such an injury are and how children can adapt and compensate afterward.
