High School
We have updated our high school summer offerings for 2023, and this year will be offering Biomedical Bootcamp as a one-week non-residential program for high school students.
Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowships
Two undergraduate summer fellowship programs, INBRE and REU, run in conjunction and support students working in the laboratories of resident or visiting scientists on hands-on research projects. During the 10-week residential mentored research experiences, students also receive other educational opportunities, including an extensive scientific seminar program, professional development workshops, and dedicated residential life programs. Graduate and Post Graduate
The MDI Biological Laboratory has a long and distinguished history of graduate and postgraduate education. Ph.D. students pursue their thesis research in faculty laboratories as part of the University of Maine Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering (GSBSE).
Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are invited to apply to course and conference offerings.
Graduate students from all over the world also work collaboratively with resident and visiting faculty mentors. Visiting graduate students may apply for support through the David W. Towle Summer Fellowship program.
Postdoctoral scientists are an integral part of the MDI Biological Laboratory research and education community. Postdocs work in all the laboratories of our resident faculty. In addition to laboratory research, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the MDI Biological Laboratory can explore many science-oriented careers through development workshops and one-on-one interactions with visitors from industry, education, government, journalism, and the legal profession.
