The Residential Education Coordinator (REdC) is a seasonal position June through August at MDI Biological Laboratory, serving both the Education and Residential Life Programs. As part of the Education Program, The REdC will report directly to the Education Director and work with Education Staff to deliver Education Services in support of Courses, Conferences, and the Summer Research Fellowship Program.
As part of the Residential Life Program, the REdC will reside in the High School (HS) dormitory in a private apartment and serve as the de facto HS Resident Advisor. In addition, the REdC will serve as a resource for Undergraduate (UG) Residential Advisors (RAs) as well as ensuring that these staff members have completed required training and are meeting their obligations and carrying out their duties. REdC may assume a leadership role in planning and organizing various MDI Biological Laboratory-sponsored summer social and recreational programs to complement any activities organized by the UG RAs. The REdC is required to be in residence during the time students are in residence, from early June to mid-August.
The REdC will also provide services within the Education Department, taking responsibility for particular aspects of course preparation, conference logistics, and our outreach program.
The Education Program is nested in a fast-paced office with a lot of different course and conference preparations happening simultaneously. Good communication and collaboration skills are necessary. The REdC must be a self-starter, and problem solver able to see things that need to be done. The REdC will serve as a liaison between the residential life program and the Education Department, attending weekly Education and Residential Life meetings and reporting out on both programs.
The REdC will help to assure that both the Education and Residential Life Program run smoothly.
